This blog post is a tribute to the Fellowship.ai program, a transformative experience that significantly altered the course of my life.
Allow me to share my professional journey with you. First, I will briefly introduce myself and some background information that influenced my life choices.
Born into a middle-class family in Egypt, I am now 39 years old. During my childhood, an unfortunate incident led to inflammation in my spinal cords, resulting in lifelong challenges, including hearing loss and slightly shaky nerves. Despite these health issues, I led a fulfilling life thanks to the unwavering support and open-mindedness of my family.
At 22, while still in college, I married a Polish woman. I graduated from Tiba Academy in Maadi in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Management Information Technology. After graduation, I worked in several internet cafes and other shops until I decided to co-own an internet cafe where I had previously worked.
However, we had to close the business after a few years due to the economic crisis triggered by the Egyptian revolution. It was then that I realized that my age was a barrier to finding a job related to my college specialization. Despite several attempts and even relocating to other cities, most desirable jobs sought fresh graduates.
This marked the beginning of my journey into coding. My wife, always supportive and understanding of my situation, encouraged me to pursue my interests. One day, I enrolled in a free course on Python programming and instantly fell in love with it. Coding is the perfect fit for me as someone who enjoys solving puzzles.
After completing my first course, I was eager to learn more. Over the next few years, I expanded my knowledge from Python to software packages and machine learning. I then decided to take the next step and began looking for a job as a junior machine learning engineer.
Despite applying for numerous jobs over a year and a half, I had no luck. The recurring issues were my lack of previous experience and my age. I tried to explain that I was a self-taught coder, which accounted for the experience gap in my resume, but companies seemed to decide that I was not suitable for the job before even testing my skills.
To break this cycle, I decided to join an online boot camp. This turned out to be one of the most enriching experiences of my life. I joined the Fellowship.ai boot camp, where I had the opportunity to interact with real people and learn alongside them.
The Fellowship program is designed to test your creativity and determination. You are assigned a project that you choose from several options, and you are expected to use your imagination and conduct extensive research to complete it. I joined two consecutive cohorts, each lasting around three months, and worked on two projects based on AI agents and large language models.
Before joining the Fellowship.ai program, I had no idea that AI agents or large language models existed. It was a highly informative and exciting six months during which I met like-minded, supportive, and charming individuals.
Finally, my perseverance paid off. The CEO of Fellowship.ai recognized my determination and hard work on the projects. He offered me a job on my last day in the second cohort, disregarding my experience, background, and age. I have been working with Launchpad.ai for around six months, earning a good salary.

ومع ذلك، بسبب الأزمة الاقتصادية التي أثارتها الثورة المصرية، اضطررنا إلى إغلاق المشروع بعد بضع سنوات. كان ذلك عندما أدركت أن عمري يشكل حاجزًا أمام العثور على وظيفة مرتبطة بتخصص الكلية. على الرغم من العديد من المحاولات وحتى الانتقال إلى مدن أخرى، يبدو أن معظم الوظائف المرغوبة تبحث عن خريجين جدد.
هذه كانت بداية رحلتي في العثور على وظيفة احلامى. زوجتي كانت دائماً تدعم وتفهم حالتي، شجعتني على متابعة اهتماماتي. في يوم من الأيام، قررت التسجيل في دورة مجانية على لغة البرمجة ووقعت في حبها على الفور. بصفتي شخصًا يستمتع بحل الألغاز.
بعد إكمال دورتي الأولى، كنت متحمسًا لمعرفة المزيد. على مدى السنوات القليلة الماضية، وسعت معرفتي من إلى حزم البرامج وأخيرًا إلى التعلم الآلي. ثم قررت أن أتخذ الخطوة التالية وبدأت البحث عن وظيفة كمهندس تعلم آلي مبتدئ.
على الرغم من التقدم للعديد من الوظائف على مدى سنة ونصف، لم أكن محظوظًا. كانت المشكلات المتكررة هي عدم وجود خبرة سابقة وعمري. حاولت أن أشرح أنني مبرمج ذاتي التعلم، وهو ما يفسر الفجوة في الخبرة في سيرتي الذاتية، ولكن الشركات بدت أنها تقرر أنني لست مناسبًا للوظيفة قبل حتى اختبار مهاراتي.
في محاولة لكسر هذه الدائرة، قررت الانضمام إلى برنامج تدريب عبر الإنترنت. وقد تبين أن هذه كانت واحدة من أغنى التجارب في حياتي. انضممت إلى برنامج الفيلوشيب حيث كان لدي الفرصة للتفاعل مع أشخاص حقيقيين والتعلم معهم.
تم تصميم برنامج الزمالة لاختبار إبداعك وتصميمك. يتم تعيينك في مشروع تختاره من بين العديد من الخيارات، ومن المتوقع أن تستخدم خيالك وتجري بحثًا واسعًا لإكماله. انضممت إلى ندوتين متتاليتين، كل منها يستمر حوالي ثلاثة أشهر، وعملت على مشروعين مختلفين استنادًا إلى وكلاء الذكاء الاصطناعي والنماذج اللغوية الكبيرة.
قبل الانضمام إلى البرنامج ، لم أكن أعرف أن وكلاء الذكاء الاصطناعي أو النماذج اللغوية الكبيرة موجودة. كانت ستة أشهر معلوماتية ومثيرة للاهتمام للغاية، خلالها التقيت بأشخاص يشاركونني الاهتمامات، متعاونين و لطفاء للغاية.
أخيرًا، أتت ثمار مثابرتي. لاحظ الرئيس التنفيذي لـعملي الجاد والمثابرة على المشاريع. وفي آخر يوم لي في الندوة الثانية، عرض علي وظيفة، متجاهلاً خبرتي السابقة وخلفيتي وعمري. انا أعمل معه لحوالي ستة أشهر الآن، وأحصل على راتب جيد بالدولار المريكى.
